Historic Masonry Repair Workshop July 8-10 | Allen Park | 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM Join us for an engaging and hands-on masonry 3-day workshop where you'll learn practical experience in the removal of deteriorated mortar and proper techniques for repointing historic masonry. Led by Bob Yapp, who has dedicated his entire career to historic preservation, this immersive workshop takes place on-site at the historic Roost, a two-story structure with rubble stone foundation and rustic log siding, oldest structure in Allen Park. |

These structures are in danger of demolition or collapse due to neglect, development, natural disaster, or a combination thereof. We ask that people in the surrounding neighborhoods and communities where these structures are located make their voices heard to help save these historic buildings and places. Reach out to your local, state, and/or church leaders; form community groups; interact with the media in your area; and advocate to save your local history. |

 | Caroline Maffett is assisting us with our Marketing and Communications, building a year-round marketing and communication plan that includes social media, website, printed mailings, and so much more. Caroline Maffett is currently pursuing a BFA in Ballet with a minor in Strategic Communications and Biology at the University of Utah. She is very excited to join the Preservation Utah team and bring my knowledge and efforts to the organization's communication channels. |
 | Suvam Pokarel is interning with our Historic Properties Program, focusing on auditing all of our easements and ensuring we have clean and clear data on the 130 properties that we protect throughout Utah. Suvam is currently a student at the University of Utah studying Economics and Political Science. They hope to go to law school and pursue a political career. Suvam’s interests are in politics, Nintendo, and pop culture. |

Meditation Chapel Tours June 13 & 28 |11 am- 1pm More Info Here This is a free walk-up tour—no registration required! Nestled within the Memory Grove Park is the Meditation Chapel; Preservation Utah opens the building for tours on the second Friday and fourth Saturday of each month, from April through October, and for special events. The tour will take you through the chapel's interior (a charming, small room) but does not include a guided tour of the rest of the park’s monuments. City & County Building Tour June 13 20 & 27 | 9:30am | RSVP required RSVP Here Completed in 1894, the building is Utah's finest example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. This one-hour guided tour begins with the base isolators beneath the building and ends in the clock tower high above. Historic Main St Walking Tour June 28 |10 am-11:30 | Registration Required Register Here Join us for a captivating 90-minute walking tour exploring the rich history and remarkable architecture of Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City. Discover the city's oldest commercial building—erected before the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad—and marvel at three iconic commercial buildings designed by renowned architect Richard Kletting. Along the way, we’ll delve into the stories of Whiskey Street, the Pony Express, and the evolution of ZCMI in the heart of the city. Utah Governor's Mansion Tour July 2 | 1pm | Registration Required Register Here The historic Kearns Mansion is one of Utah's architectural treasures. It has a beautiful Chateauesque exterior, a stunning interior, and the dramatic story of the Kearns family. Thomas Kearns made a fortune on the silver flowing out of Park City mines. He spared no expense in building a home that became the dazzling center of Utah's elite social life. A world-class restoration completed in 1996 returned the mansion to its original 1902 appearance. Glimpse the gold-leafed dome and see Teddy Roosevelt's hat rack on a 45-minute guided tour of the Kearns Mansion's first floor. |
