Join us for a powerful evening with historian Paul Reeve, co-author of the groundbreaking book,This Abominable Slavery: Race, Religion, and the Battle over Human Bondage in Antebellum Utah. This event is free and open to the public. Come learn about a hidden but deeply important part of Utah’s history. |

This month, we wanted to highlight our volunteers, Coco and Chloe. Coco’s service journey began with fundraising for MS and donating adaptive ski equipment to the Jackson Hole Adaptive Ski Program. Coco’s adventurous spirit and leadership experience now fuel her commitment to Preservation Utah. She is currently working on an American Express grant for a new and exciting program we hope to implement soon. She spends a lot of her time volunteering, and her passion for nature conservation, environmental issues, art, and culture led her to volunteer with us, where she’s gained what she sees as valuable working experience that sometimes can’t be attained through academic studies. |

Chloe has always been drawn to history and the beauty of craftsmanship, especially in architecture. “I’m quite a nostalgic person and love the preservation of history. Preservation Utah felt like a natural fit for me—it perfectly matches my passion for old places and the stories they hold.” When asked to sum up her volunteer experience so far, she chose three words: meditative, illuminating, and a little dusty. One of her favorite parts of volunteering has been seeing how Salt Lake City once looked—discovering the foundations on which the city was built. A lot of Chloe’s volunteering time has been spent cataloging our many blueprints and architectural drawings with careful thought and much-needed detail—a task that preserves an invaluable part of Utah’s history. We’re so grateful for their dedication, energy, and the insights they bring to our organization. |

Partner Spotlight: McCune Mansion Historical Tours |
Partner Spotlight: McCune Mansion Historical Tours |
 | Since 2012, Preservation Utah has partnered with the McCune Mansion to ensure this landmark is both a vibrant gathering place and a celebrated historic treasure. Completed in 1901 for Alfred and Elizabeth McCune, the Mansion is one of America’s grandest early 20th-century homes, built with imported marble, exotic woods, and world-class craftsmanship. |
Restored in 2001, the Mansion today demonstrates the power of adaptive reuse: while its dedicated staff manages the Mansion as an elegant venue for weddings, celebrations, and corporate events, Preservation Utah leads all public historic tours. Through our docent-led tours, offered April through October, visitors experience the Mansion’s extraordinary interiors—from the octagonal reception room to the glittering third-floor ballroom—while learning the stories of the McCune family and the building’s enduring role in Utah’s cultural heritage. This partnership allows the Mansion to thrive as both a living event space and a preserved historic site. |
