Lindsey Bevan is a Project Manager in pediatric oncology research. Her passion for historic architecture drives her to stay involved in any way possible. She is currently interning with our Tours Program, focusing on getting our tour app updated with new content and audio. She loves learning about each building and how it contributes to our community. | |
 | Gracie Kolbenschlag is interning with our Advocacy programming, and she is thrilled to be joining Preservation Utah this summer as a legal intern. She is currently studying Cultural and Historic Preservation at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. She is working on our processes, policies, and research to ensure we have a clear advocacy direction and will be helping with location specific advocacy needs. Gracie is passionate about preserving the stories and spaces that shape our communities, with a special interest in historic architecture. When she is back home in Utah, she loves spending time outdoors—especially skiing and mountain biking in the mountains she grew up around! |

Preservation Utah is proud to partner with the Utah State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)—the agency leading historic preservation efforts statewide under the National Historic Preservation Act. SHPO’s work supports tax credit projects, National Register nominations, Certified Local Government (CLG) grants, archaeological site stewardship, the Utah Main Street Program, and so much more. This year, we were grateful to work with SHPO on the Preservation Engaged Conference, sharing expertise in compliance, architecture, public archaeology, and community revitalization. Behind SHPO’s impact is a dedicated, multidisciplinary team—including preservation architects, archaeologists, historians, program coordinators, records managers, and GIS specialists—who ensure that Utah’s historic places are identified, protected, and celebrated. We’re grateful for their ongoing leadership and partnership in preserving the places that tell Utah’s story. Learn more about their work https://ushpo.utah.gov/ |

Rehab it Right Over three powerful days, hands met history at the Fifth Ward Meetinghouse during our hands-on Window Restoration Workshop — and the transformation is already showing. With Restoration West's expert guidance, participants diagnosed and repaired original 1910 windows, breathing new life into this long-neglected landmark. These aren’t just restored windows — they’re a glimpse into a renewed future for a building that will serve as community space and recovery housing under the care of Salt of the Earth. Every scrape, every glaze, every pane put back in place was an act of preservation and hope. Thank you to all who showed up, got dusty, learned something new, and helped carry this building one step closer to being a place of healing, connection, and resilience.

2025 Engaged Conference The recent preservation conference was full of learning, connection, and hands-on inspiration in one of Utah’s most historically rich regions. We kicked things off in Spring City, a true preservation success story and National Register Historic District. With its well-preserved limestone homes and pioneer-era outbuildings, the town set a perfect tone for our reception, where stories and community came together under the evening sky.
The next day, we gathered at Wasatch Academy in nearby Mt. Pleasant for a day of workshops, sessions, and skill-building. This 35-acre campus, founded in 1875, is itself a National Register Historic District, featuring 28 beautifully restored and modernized buildings that feel like a small liberal arts college nestled in the heart of Utah. We were especially proud to return to a campus that received a Preservation Utah award in 2016 for restoring its historic Presbyterian Church.
A major highlight was our masonry workshop, where attendees learned traditional techniques for preserving historic materials—hands-on work that keeps these places (and skills) alive for future generations.
The Utah State Historic Preservation Office team did an amazing job!
